MOUNTAIN BIKE CHALLENGE
SOLI - SOLI FESTIVAL
BOGSOTOY GAMES
This prestigious sports event is held annually every year
after the celebration of our town fiesta in March 18
& 19, so that the people will still have something to
look forward to, after the festivities of Saint Joseph are
over. This is open to all cyclists and mountain-bike
racers nationwide who are interested in joining and
taking the challenge. It is divided into several different
categories, namely:
A much-anticipated holiday event featuring colorful
parades with people wearing traditional clothing and
performing indigenous dances and parties, is
famously known as the "Soli-Soli Festival." This
festival is celebrated by the whole township in honor
of St. Joseph. It falls on the third Sunday of March
every year. It is a merrymaking celebration that was
inspired from the lovely grass which is harvested
from the lake and woven into native handicrafts that
are then sold to local and mainland market outlets.
Getting into the nationwide Oktoberfest craze, San
Francisco has launched its own version of this
festivity: "Bogsotoy," the first of which was held on
the 31st of October, 2004. "Bogsotoy" is a series of
racing events with a touch of mixed traditional and
modern sports. Part of this event is a boat race,
which is where the word "Bogsotoy," comes from;
"bogsay" means "to paddle," and "sotoy" means "to
go swiftly" or "to go quickly." Bogsotoy has been an
annual event ever since.

DISCOVER CAMOTES
Discover Camotes of Suroy-Suroy Sugbo was
conceptualized by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to
Province of Cebu. The influx of foreign and Balikbayan
visitors has generated income for the province, and
therefore must be seriously considered a top priority
to promote cultural awareness and as an
income-generating arm of the local government.
Beginners, Juniors, Seniors, Executive, Masters, Veterans and the Open category, in
which the contestants will compete, showing their prowess in cycling, to determine
the champion.

The distance and route of the race is about 40 to 50 kilometers [25-50 mi.], passing
through all of the 15 "barangays" of this municipality. We also feature our downhill and
uphill single-track circuit-mountain biking course at Sitio Libo, Barangay Union, which
measures more than three kms [under two mi.].

This mountain-bike challenge is organized by the LGU through the Camotes Off-Road
Bikers Association (CORBA), to promote health and wellness of its constituents
through cycling, to enhance and develop the sport tourism of the municipality, and of
course to promote an environmentally friendly means of transportation in support of
R.A.8749, which is known as the Clean Air Act of 1999, thus minimizing hazardous
gas emissions, which is said to be one of the primary causes of global warming.
In this tour, both already-established and potential tourist hot-spots are highlighted
as points of interest to publicize to the curiosity-seeking visitors the natural and
man-made wonders of our province. This increases awareness of various points of
interest of our heritage, as well as the beautiful landscapes and beachfronts that
abound in our province, all of which are must-sees for visitors, both foreign and
local. Soroy-Suroy Sugbo certainly caters to this demand.
